Steel Magnolias

November 19, 1991 to November 23, 1991

By Robert Harling

Directed by Marjorie Howarth

The story unfolds in a Louisiana beauty salon and opens with the marriage of Shelby Eatemtom, a diabetic who defies her doctor's orders when she has a baby.  The play is called Steel Magnolias because the magnolia is thought to be a perfect emblem for the frail, wilting Southern woman.  But as the story goes on you find that each one of the women is all steel.  They are iron fists in velvet gloves.
